Flowerghost Workshop @ Reefmakeanddo
What I love when I teach ‘FlowerGhost’ workshops is the fact that there is no steep learning curve to this process. To print a flower on fabric with a hammer requires no artistic experience, you just need a strong arm and a place far away from other people’s ears. Yes. It is very noisy but the joy is instantaneous and addictive. Every time I watch a group of women come to grips with this process I am charmed by their gasps and their hunger for more. It is a sensual and mindful practice that unites groups of complete strangers in the kind of childish awe that is rare in adulthood. This is an art that is accessible, emotionally grounding and beautiful.
The pigments are petals, the tool is a hammer and the rest comes naturally.
Hosted by Rachael at Reef Make and Do, I provide an unstructured space where each person feels their own way into the fabric with the flowers. I am present to encourage and interject scientific and botanical knowledge, but the only formal teaching that takes place occurs at the start and this way, time always flies and results are always original.
